Taastrup Folk Dance Group from Denmark
Stafford Morris Men have had an association with Taastrup Folkedanserforening for over thirty years. There have been many exchange visits by the dance teams and numerous personal friendships have been established between the Danish and English Folk Dance enthusiasts.
Although there is one Morris Group in Denmark, the majority of their dances are social, usually in couples. The Taastrup Group is based near to Copenhagen and meets regularly for practices and displays. They have visited many countries to show the Danish dance traditions and have a variety of regional dances in their repertoire.
The costumes worn by the group are representative of many different styles from local areas of the country. Many are quire elaborate and it is a source of pride that most dancers make their own costumes, in some cases even making the lace which adorns their collars, cuffs and aprons. Such commitment and attention to detail gives an idea of how seriously they take their dancing.
The dances themselves are far from serious and this group really know how to enjoy themselves. Eating, drinking, laughing, singing and talking are as important to the Danes as they are to English Morris dancers. We expect their visit to Stafford in 2008 to be an extended party, just as our visit to Taastrup was in 2006.
The Group are in England between 19th and 26th July 2008 and we believe that their displays will be much appreciated by UK audiences.
