NEWS No 494    24th TO 30th MAY

ST EDITHA’S:

Twenty is Plenty on Monday 29th after school.

For the diary, the Village Choir is holding a concert to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support on Wednesday 28th June at 7.30 pm

VILLAGE INSTITUTE:

Coffee morning on Thursday 1st June.

 

HERITAGE OPERA:

Looking a wee bit ahead, ‘Magical Moments of Opera’ is taking place on Saturday 3rd June at 4.00 pm.

The performance will be followed by wine and strawberries on the lawn.

Training is on Monday 22nd between 6.00 and 7.30pm, weather permitting, at the Glebelands.

 

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK

THE ROYAL OAK

The next charity quiz takes place at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday 7th March. This quiz will again support the funding of the two defibrillators planned for Church Eaton and Marston. OK, it will have happened by the time you read this, but we are pressing on with further charity quizzes to reach our goal – if just one life is saved, all the effort is more than worthwhile.

On Thursday 23rd at 8.00pm the Institute hosts the award winning Anglo-Irish folk rock band The Roving Crows.

There will be a licensed bar from 7.00pm and tickets are available from Justin on 01785 824788.

As there are only 70 tickets in total, they are available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.


Just a reminder that on Friday 10th March, a murder mystery, ‘Scent of a Woman’ begins at 7.00pm.

ROYAL OAK

A charity quiz is taking place on Tuesday 28th at 8.00pm.

Funds generated will go towards the defibrillators, which are planned for Church Eaton and Morton.

CHURCH EATON SCHOOL

The school has been nominated to take part in Staffs County Council Speed Indication Device (SID) programme.

These devices have been installed outside the school and they will be operational for the Spring term.

This is to encourage drivers to maintain a maximum speed of 20mph when pupils are arriving at or leaving the school.

In addition, drivers are requested to park on the Village Institute car park rather than the road immediately outside the school.

ROYAL OAK:

There is a carol service outside on Monday 19th December at 7.30pm. Mince pies will be served. On Tuesday 20th December a charity quiz is taking place at 8.00pm.

LITTLE ONN HALL:

A carol service is being held on Wednesday 14th December starting at 7.45pm. Only adults are  being charged for entry.

VILLAGE SCHOOL:

Christmas services are taking place on Wednesday 14th December at 2.00pm and Thursday 15th December at 6.00pm.

INSTITUTE:

The senior citizens’ Christmas lunch takes place on Thursday 8th December at 12.30pm. The Dog Club meets on Wednesday 7th between 7.00 and 9.00pm. the Craft Club meets on Tuesday 13th December between 7.00 and 9.00pm.

GLEBELANDS SPORTS ASSOCIATION:

The Association is now under ‘new management’ with one of the objectives being to promote the use of the sports field for the benefit and wellbeing for the whole community. Anyone wishing to learn more or to contribute is most welcome to come to the second public meeting on 8th December at 7.30pm in the pavilion.

The attempt to save the Church Eaton and Morton boxes continues. Anyone wishing to comment can contact planning@staffordbc.gov.uk The person dealing with this matter is Mr R Wood.

The Children of Classes 2 and 3 have written mini historical sagas for a book entitled ‘Ancient Adventures’.

The book has been published by Young Writers and includes contributions from:

Elliot Wrotchford, Mia Terry, Joben Corcoran, Lola Corcoran, Ben Beddow, Amelia Coleman, Josie Stockhall and Joshua Newton.

Bell ringing practice takes place from 8.00 to 9.00 p.m. on Tuesday 25th October.

The school has won the national ‘Green School Sustainability Award’. Over 600 schools entered.
